Suntan’s New Desert Modern Language

  • Palm Springs, California

  • Sandy Swett & Red Door Pictures

At Suntan Lane, the raw austerity of William Pauli’s 1970s Brutalism gives way to a contemporary Desert Modernist vision, creating a timeless modern desert oasis. Seamless indoor-outdoor living, sunlit spaces, and regional materials connect interiors to the surrounding desert. Minimalist interiors playfully nod to the 1970s through color, texture, and wall coverings, while wide overhangs, deep patios, and decorative breezeblocks provide shade, natural cooling, and define nine distinct outdoor living areas. The result is a harmonious blend of modern elegance, desert functionality, and subtle retro charm. A new language for Suntan that feels effortless and enduring.
